Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage and Swedish Massage have many similarities but the real difference is the amount of
pressure used, and how the therapist manipulates the tissue. Deeper bodywork or Deep Tissue Massage is
beneficial in releasing long lasting or chronic muscle tension by focusing on the fibers and layers of muscle tissue,
tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding bones, joints and muscles). The result is the removal of
tension and pain from muscle triggers, and the realigning of a multitude of layers.
The removal of adhesions, knots, build-up and waste throughout our bodies is what Deep Tissue Massage is all
about. These adhesions are bands of painful, rigid tissue in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Left untreated
adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and cause inflammation throughout the body.
Deep Tissue Massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and inflammation. The
massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied across these fibers, tissues and muscles. this
type of massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive
motions and past lingering injuries.
